Authors Note: When I heard of the Cause/Effect piece, I immediately thought of the instructions in The City of Ember.
In the book City of Ember, there is a very important Item which is a box with instructions inside it. These instructions were very important, but poppy (a little girl) partly chewed on them when she found them before Lina did (older sister/main character). This left Lina with some words that were halfway gone.
Lina had to decipher these instructions with help from others. This had a major effect on the plot because this was a setback when it came to understanding the instructions. This had a major effect also because it brought Lina and Doon (friend) together to find the way out of Ember. Without this event happening, this book would be about 50 pages shorter.
